I often hear people talking about goals and how they seem to be unable to reach them. I find this statement a little sad but also have to think that these people fail to plan. I am sure that you’re familiar with the saying “those that fail to plan plan to fail”. This popular saying states that if you don’t set goals and milestones, you’ll never get to where you want to go. My opinions is that if you set realistic goals for yourself, you’ll be able to reach them. There’s something to setting goals that you can achieve that really motivate you to go and do whatever it takes to get there.
Here are some tips to help you achieve your goals:
- Write down your “ultimate goal”. Although your ultimate goal may seem far out of reach right now, write it down anyway.
- Break down your ultimate goal into several steps that are realistic. For example, if your goal is to lose 100 pounds then obviously that won’t happen in 1 month. You need to break that down into something more realistic like “drop 5 pounds this month”
- Give yourself a report card. At the end of every small goal, have a heart to heart with yourself. How did you do? What went wrong? What was great? How can you improve? Was the goal too easy?
- If you can, get someone to hold you accountable. Have a friend see your goals and have them check up on you every month or every week. It’s amazing what a friend can do to help you reach your goals!
- Don’t give up! If you miss a milestone for the month, don’t quit and give up. Write down your goals again and get motivated. Never EVER quit! You can do it!
